What happens in this process?
Learn and Earn is a competitive program. Students are selected based on their ability to complete the internship AND to represent Bunker Hill Community College as an ambassador! There are two phases in the process:
Phase 1 – Get Pre-Certified by Learn and Earn: Interested students meet with a member of the Learn and Earn team to talk about their company interests, their availability, and have their resume reviewed. Students are then scheduled for a required “Pre-Selection” interview. Students are expected to attend workshops offered by the Career Center to polish their resume and interviewing skills. Students are then “pre-certified” to apply for Learn and Earn internships. Pre-certification is given to students who receive positive recommendations from an instructor and good results on their pre-selection interview.
Phase 2 – Work with Employers in the Selection Process: Students who receive pre-certification will be given access to apply directly to internships they are qualified for. The Learn and Earn Coordinator will send those resumes directly to the employers. Employers from our partner companies will look over the applicants’ resumes and decide who they want to interview. Applicants will be called directly by the employer for an interview. After the interviews, the employers will extend offers to the students they have selected for internships. Everyone will receive communication about the results of their interviews.
Employers will contact the Learn and Earn Coordinator about their choices. Those students will then work with the coordinator to choose their internship course section and receive their travel stipend.
