The Language Lab

Intro to the Lab

The Bunker Hill Community College Language Lab provides students a high-tech learning environment and a knowledgeable tutoring staff to guide them with any aspect of language learning; from speaking, listening and pronunciation to reading, writing, grammar and punctuation.

Purpose of the Lab

The Lab’s objective is to help all students improve their language skills. In addition to software and tutoring, the Lab offers many additional services, including workshops and practice exit exams.

Lab Resources

The Lab currently provides students with 10 language learning software programs, several support staff members, and 34 partitioned workstations. Many of our staff members speak other languages including French, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic.

Lab Services

Foreign Language Audio/Video Files

Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and German files are available for students and focus on grammar, speaking and listening comprehension skills.

Free Workshops 

Every semester, Lab staff members provide free workshops focusing on grammar, PowerPoint, writing, and TOEFL exams. Sign-up information is available in the Lab.

ENG 095/111 and ESL Reading and Writing Practice Exams

The Lab offers ENG 095/111 and ESL Reading and Writing students the opportunity to take practice exit exams. We provide the readings, administer the exam, evaluate them, and provide feedback to each student.

Scheduled and Drop-In Tutoring

Students can make appointments to meet with our tutors, who will assist with reading, writing and grammar skills.  

Foreign Language Tutoring

Many of our staff members speak languages other than English and can provide tutoring for students enrolled in any foreign language course offered at BHCC.

Lab Orientations

These orientations can provide faculty members and their classes the opportunity to become more familiar with the software programs and resources offered in the Lab. Faculty members are encouraged to schedule workshops. Please contact the Language Lab to make an appointment.

TOEFL, IELTS and CPT Practice Exams
