2015 Commencement

What is Commencement?

Commencement is the ceremony that celebrates the completion or anticipated completion of degree requirements. Graduation is the actual completion of all degree requirements and is recorded on the official transcript.  Participation in the commencement ceremony does not imply that you have officially graduated.

Commencement is held in the commencement tent on the Charlestown Campus

Commencement begins promptly at 11:00 AM

Commencement is approximately two hours long.

On the day of Commencement, students are expected to arrive at 9:30 am and report, with caps and gowns, to the main lobby of the Health and Wellness Center Gymnasium. 

Guests should arrive at 9:30 am in order to get seats for commencement. Late arrivals are not guaranteed seating.

Students, who successfully complete program requirements by graduation date and who have submitted a graduation application, received communication from Academic Records that they are eligible to graduate.

Students who have 7 credits or fewer to complete in the summer must register for summer classes and submit the summer graduation application by the end of the day Saturday April 8, if they want to walk in Commencement. The Academic Records Office will review the student’s record and send a communication to the student’s BHCC email when the review is complete.

Diplomas are mailed to students after the end of the semester in which the degree or certificate was awarded. Note: Students should make any necessary address changes prior to their degree conferral date.

Yes, guests will need a ticket to enter and exit the Commencement tent.  Due to growing numbers in our graduating classes, students will each receive two (2) tickets for guests.

No, graduating students will not require a ticket

The best way is to reach out to your fellow graduates who may not be attending Commencement and get extras from them.

Yes.  Parking is limited on campus so please ask your guests to carpool, use the T.

Bunker Hill Community College graduates in need of disability-related accommodations should contact the Office for Students with Disabilities at 617-228-2327 or visit the Office in Room E222. Ticketed Guests in need of special accommodation should contact the Events office at 617-228-2328.

Once you are cleared to participate in Commencement, you will receive an email to order your regalia (cap and gown). BHCC will cover the cost of the regalia and the cost of mailing it to your home. This is our Commencement gift to you. Regalia must be ordered by 5 p.m. on April 27, 2018.

The last day to order caps and gowns is on April 27, 2018 by 5 p.m.  You must be cleared for graduation to receive Cap and Gown reservation through you BHCC email.

Your cap and gown will be mailed to the address you provided during the online ordering process.

BHCC does use an outside photograph company for Commencement. Envelopes with information on how to order commencement photos will be given out at the Commencement information sessions. Download the order form.
