Chelsea Campus Relocation – Frequently Asked Questions
Bunker Hill Community College’s Chelsea Campus at Bellingham Square has grown steadily over the past several years. As a result, we have outgrown our current Chelsea location. To ensure that we are able to continue providing a high-quality learning environment to our growing Chelsea student body, we are moving our Chelsea Campus to a new location a few blocks away at the start of Spring Semester 2017.
Where is the new campus?
The new location is at 70 Everett Avenue, halfway between Bellingham Square and Chelsea High School. It is the former site of Everest Institute.
What does this mean?
The larger campus provides more smart classrooms and 50% more lab space. This allows BHCC to expand our course offerings on the Chelsea campus—meaning more students can take all of their courses in the Chelsea location rather than travelling between campuses. We will also be able to offer mini sessions on the Chelsea Campus for students who want to complete certain courses at an accelerated rate.
How do I get there?
The BHCC Shuttle will continue to provide transportation between the Chelsea and Charlestown Campuses on its regular schedule. Additionally, several MBTA bus lines, including Buses 111, 112, 114 and 116, stop within a few blocks of the campus. The Chelsea commuter rail stop on the Newbury/Rockport line is also close to the new campus. Best of all, the new campus offers nearly four times as many parking spaces as the Bellingham Square campus—which means there will be some student parking available on campus. The Route 1 on-ramp to Charlestown is conveniently located just behind the new Chelsea Campus.
How do I register?
Continuing students can register online as usual. New students should refer to their acceptance packet for information on how to register for classes.
You can find all available Chelsea Campus courses using the Search for Sections tool. Filter by the Chelsea Campus location to find all courses that are available on the new Chelsea Campus.
What is close by?
The new Chelsea Campus is a short walk from the Bellingham Square campus, and is closer to Chelsea High School. In addition to an on-site café, there are several conveniences within a ten-minute walk of the campus.
What happens to the former Chelsea Campus?
BHCC values its longstanding relationship with the City of Chelsea. We will continue to offer Community Education and Adult Basic Education at the Bellingham Square campus on evenings and weekends to serve the Chelsea Community. That is scheduled to begin fall 2017. Additionally, the Phoenix Academy Public Charter High School Chelsea will be moving in to the Bellingham Square location and will offer its students a dual enrollment program with BHCC to jump-start their college careers.
