Welcome to the Division of Science, Engineering and Health Programs! The Department of Science and Engineering has Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degrees in Chemical Science and Physics and Associate of Science (A.S.) Degrees in Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering and Engineering. Internship opportunities for students in these programs are readily available. Many of the graduates of the A. A. and A.S. degree programs have transferred to the University of Massachusetts in Boston, Lowell and Amherst, Smith College; Wellesley College; Merrimack College, Northeastern University, Wentworth Institute of Technology and Tufts University.
The Department of Medical Laboratory Science prepares students to become registered Medical Laboratory Technicians (A.S. degree) who work in medical laboratories and perform tests that aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and the maintenance of health.
The Department of Allied Health offers certificate programs preparing students to become Medical Assistants, Medical Interpreters and Patient Care Technicians. Courses are also available to train students to become Certified Nurse Assistants (C.N.A.s)/Home Health Aides as well as Emergency Medical Technicians (E.M.T.s). The Department of Surgical Technology also offers certificate programs that prepare students to become registered Central Processing Technicians and registered Surgical Technicians.
New in the Division is the Paramedic Studies Program. This 15 month certificate program is designed for certified Emergency Medical Technicians desiring to advance their level of certification and training. The program follows the National Standard EMT-Paremedic Curriculum meeting and/or exceeding the requirements set forth by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services and the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Profession preparing students to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians written and practical exam. Following completion of the certificate program, students can complete general education requirements to receive an Associate in Paramedics Studies.
